Everything you need to know about men and women’s undergarments

For many people, sweatpants have varied uses. Jockstrap are a comfort-oriented after-work delight for some people. Sweatpants are the uniform of choice for some people, such as personal trainers, who wear them to work every day. In a society where men are expected to dress in suits and women in dresses, sweat pants are among the few clothing items that defy both gender and fashion conventions. Sweatpants for men and women do differ in several ways, though.

Length

Adult males are normally taller than females when they are fully grown. The average adult male in the United States stood about five feet ten inches tall, while the average adult female was about five feet five inches tall as of 2008, according to Disabled World: Disability and Health News. Due of this, men’s sweatpants are typically longer than those for women and feature longer inseams, which are the seams that connect a pair of pants’ crotch to their legs’ bottoms.

Width at Waist

Adult males often have broader waists than females in addition to being taller. For instance, the National Health Service of England states that while doctors would probably categorize an adult female with a waistline of 33 inches as obese, an adult male with the same measurement would be considered to have a typical, healthy waistline. As a result, the waistlines of men’s sweatpants are often wider than those of women.

Waistband Designs

Most men’s sweatpants have a standard elastic waistband that is typically one to two inches tall. A shoelace-style drawstring that wraps around the inside of the waistband of the pants’ waistline is frequently present as well. To tie the pants in place and tighten them, the ends of this string come out of two holes in the front. Although this traditional style is frequently used in women’s sweatpants, designers occasionally create variants. These include adding extra-large waistbands—four to five inches tall—and giving regular-sized waistbands a wrinkled or ruffled appearance.

Patterns and Colors

Sweatpants are available in a wide range of hues and designs. Designers aim to produce more feminine styles for women’s sweat pants, as opposed to sticking with more macho themes for men’s sweat pants, such as using dark, solid hues like blue, black, and gray, and linear patterns. Women’s sweatpants frequently come in pastel hues, such as pale pink and purple, and occassionally include flowery patterns. But there are also more “masculine” hues and patterns accessible to ladies.

Finally, some women’s sweatpants are fitting, which means that when a woman wears them, they embrace the shape of her legs. Stretchy fabrics are used by designers to achieve this. When it comes to men’s sweatpants, the design is less popular.
